By protesting the National Anthem, Kaepernick has polarized not only black and white, but forced the Indigenous community to take a side. Of course, an Indigenous athlete protesting the national anthem isn’t new. Black athletes have sat or stood in defiance of a song that represents tyranny and oppression going back to Tommy Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympics. While Kaepernick is getting his share of criticism from the media and white society at large, he’s also getting support from athletes in other sports at all levels. Join me and guest Clee Raiford as we delve into the Kaepernick effect and how the Indigenous community can benefit from the situation. We’ll also be calling out those of us that are supporting the media by speaking out against him. #Kaepernickeffect, #standupforyourrights, #nonationalanthem, #callingoutcoons
