The Historically Black College/University legacy is a well-established one that spans three centuries.  But HBCUs are in trouble, as they are being left out of the big money funding historically white colleges and universities get the benefit of.  Right now, during March Madness, there are only two schools participating in the NCAA Tournament, and they are both destined to bow out in the early rounds.  To make matters worse, several HBCU’s have been banned from the postseason play in football, decreasing those school’s chances of payday in a bowl game.  The CIAA Tournament is the third largest college basketball tournament in terms of attendance, yet it’s largely disrespected not only by the mainstream, but by our own people as well.  Other than financial support to the schools that were created to give us a competitive chance, the best strategy to employ is bolstering the sports programs by convincing our talented athletes to attend HBCU’s.  Are we ready to think strategically and not emotionally on this issue?  Join me as we’ll discuss and dialogue.
