A quick refresher course; Dum Diversas was brought into action in June 1452 by Alfonso of Portugual.  The act set a precedent and laid a foundation of Spain’s getting a slice of the Americas pie.  Dum Diversas was followed by the Doctrine of Discovery and Papal Bulls of 1493.  The Doctrine of Discovery played a central role in the next level of Spain’s conquest of the “New World.”  The Papal Bulls of 1493 granted Spain (the crowns of Castile and Aragon) “all lands west-and-south of a pole-to-pole line,” 100 leagues west and south of any of the “islands of the Azores or the Cape Verde Islands.”  Join me and guest Moz Lyric as we break it down and discuss.
