A Kind Voice on Sports - Pee Wee Reese

Interview with Chautauqua orator Dick Usher in character as Pee Wee Reese, the Brooklyn Dodger shortstop from 1940 to 1957, a 10 time All Star and contributor to 7 National League championships.   After his playing days he was a broadcaster teaming up with Dizzy Dean.  He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.

With all his great accomplishments, he might have been a better man than he was a baseball player and we will talk about his support for and friendship with his teammate Jackie Robinson.  Pee Wee Reese was born in Ekron, Kentucky and raised there until he was nearly eight years old, when his family moved to Louisville.

Later on in the show we will learn more about Dick, his motivations for performing the Pee Wee Reese character, as well as chautauquas as part of the Kentucky Humanities Council.
