Lilia Slavova got out of communist Bulgaria in 1986. Husband was a former member of the communist party who had become disillusioned with communist rule and defected.Very active in theater - award-winning actress, director, and producer.

Jaroslaw Martyniuk born in Ukraine. He had relatives who were imprisoned in Soviet gulags. His family fled communism; he ended up in Chicago. Joined Radio Liberty in 1985 in Paris, where he coordinated interviews with Soviet citizens and emigrants in Western Europe. The work provided unique information and insights into Soviet citizens’ attitudes on crucial issues and developments in the USSR.
