Fighting Lions With Loo Rolls: An African Experience is a  true story about a young couple that moves to Kenya, East Africa, with their two children and the adventures they had; how they survived in a world that was completely foreign to them; living among nature at its most untamed, in a time of major political unrest. 

Kathy was born in Rochester, NY.  Hugh in Macclesfield, England. They met in Toronto, Canada.  Rachel, their daughter, was born in the Highlands of Scotland, and Zachary, in Manchester, England. Kathy worked as a primary school teacher;  a wildlife researcher on the Serengeti  Plains;  a professional singer;  a Buyer of African Art;  an administrator for International Famine Relief programs in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Zaire; and as a Program Assistant for the United Nations Environment Programme in Kenya. 

After returning to the U.S., Kathy got a Master's Degree in Applied Anthropology and a BA in Political Science.  She worked as an American Indian Art Educator in Washington D.C.; in American Indian Policy with Congressional Research Service; with Indian Head Start; and served as a Commissioner on Indian Affairs for the State of Maryland.  She also taught Cultural Anthropology in colleges in Maryland.  She is a Wilson Scholar, a Truman Scholar, an American Association of University Women Scholar and a Director’s Scholar.
