Fighting Lions With Loo Rolls: An African Experience is a  true story about a young couple that moves to Kenya, East Africa, with their two children and the adventures they had; how they survived in a world that was completely foreign to them; living among nature at its most untamed, in a time of major political unrest.

They met in Toronto, Canada.  Rachel, their daughter, was born in the Highlands of Scotland, and Zachary, in Manchester, England. Kathy worked as a primary school teacher;  a wildlife researcher on the Serengeti  Plains;  a professional singer;  a Buyer of African Art;  an administrator for International Famine Relief programs in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Zaire; and as a Program Assistant for the United Nations Environment Programme in Kenya.

After returning to the U.S., Kathy got a Master's Degree in Applied Anthropology and a BA in Political Science.  She worked as an American Indian Art Educator in Washington D.C.; in American Indian Policy with Congressional Research Service; with Indian Head Start; and served as a Commissioner on Indian Affairs for the State of Maryland.  She also taught Cultural Anthropology in colleges in Maryland.  She is a Wilson Scholar, a Truman Scholar, an American Association of University Women Scholar and a Director’s Scholar.
