God has given Moses some rather strange instructions that may not even make sense, such as “turn back”. When we enter into a period of distress and testing, everything in us sometimes says “turn back or withdraw”. But God tells us to move forward and that He will be with us. Moses obeyed God out of faith, and we move forward by faith because we have God’s promises. God had revealed to Moses what He was going to do to Pharoah and so Moses believed God not knowing exactly what God was going to do with Pharoah and likewise we move forward by faith not knowing what God is going to do to gain glory for Himself.
You would think that the Egyptians had experienced enough catastrophes but apparently not, so God gave Moses some specific directions for a specific purpose. The Egyptians overtook the two and a half million Israelites exactly where God told Moses to take them and there Pharoah and his army would be destroyed.
