****SPECIAL EPISODE******

Teresa Palmer, MSN, RN, NPc  is a nationally certified adult Nurse Practitioner with an expertise in holistic cardiology and holistic health and a Certified Yoga therapist. Teresa  was chosen by the International Association Of Top Professionals ( IAOTP) as the 2019 Nurse Practitioner of the Year and in 2020 as the Empowered Woman of the Year. Teresa empowers individuals to partner in their health care and take charge of their health and wellbeing. She has recently written a book: _Finding Sanctuary in the Pandemic Age: Create Your Space of Wellbeing_.

She will discuss, on this show, one simple concept that exemplifies her health philosophy - gratitude. This emotion is a wonderful example of stress management to practice over the holidays and all year-round. It is not only good for your relationships with others, it is a way to become more self-fulfilled, as well.

She asks if acts of gratitude promote good health and well-being?  Yes, appreciating the contributions of others has both external and internal rewards. It leads to new opportunities to form relationships with others - which then strengthen the immune system.

How do we know this? The gratitude way-of-life has been studied. It was found that those practicing this experience are happier with less depression (Robert Emmons) and have fewer “aches and pains." A daily practice of gratitude also improves sleep, as found in a 2012 study which also showed an increase in empathy and a decrease in pain, stress, and aggressive tendencies.

.Additionally, when we are in a grateful state, dopamine, the feel good hormone is released. Thus, we can't help but feel good! You may wonder how to be grateful while being angry at the world. That's what Teresa Palmer will talk about tonight.
