On October 21, 1916 Anthony Crawford who was a land baron owning between 427 - 600 acres of land was lynched and after his murder his family was threatened with the same fate if they did not leave town.
Mr. Crawford was a "targeted individual" because of his wealth and his family was robbed of a fortune.
