Mary McLeod Bethune parents where former slaves and with only $1.50 (a little over $25 in 2015 currency) she founded "Bethune-Cookman University", owned 25% in a hotel, and was one of the "Town Founders of Bethune Beach, Florida.

Kalief Browder had (a) Internet Access, (b) Access to the NYC School System, (c) Access to the NYC Library System and both he, his parents, and grandparents are all BORN FREE !   However with all of these (and more) advantages was Kalief incarcerated for three years and then took his own life @ 22.
