Join bUneke Radio’s host Mary Brotherton for a marathon to raise the remaining money needed to purchase the property known as Green Gables, in Melbourne, Florida before 21st century development destroys this beautiful 19th century home.
As soon as Mary met Marion Ambrose and Sue Fallon from Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, on the Seeta and Friends Radio Show, she and her nonprofit business partner, Jennifer East, started developing a plan to partner with the other nonprofit in order to rescue, revive and restore the 123-year-old house that has been declared a historic landmark. Step one culminated in the creation of a documentary called Forgotten Enchantress, which has been showing throughout Brevard County, Florida, and generating donations and pledges, with plans for more distant showings.
Why Should You Save an Old House?
Old homes are disappearing quickly and once they are gone, they cannot be replaced. A new home, while it may be built to look old, is still a new home. Since the supply of old homes will continue to decrease and the demand is likely to continue to increase as buyers flock back to city centers and first-rung neighborhoods, the price of old homes will continue to rise.
