On February 1, 2017, Tavis Crane who was then 23 years old was shot multiple times and killed by Arlington police officer Craig Roper during a traffic stop. A grand jury declined to charge Craig Roper for the murder of Tavis Crane. The Crane family later filed a federal lawsuit against both Craig Roper and the city of Arlington. The Fifth Circuit Court found that Craig Roper should not have shot and killed Tavis Crane. They also ruled that Craig Roper should not have qualified immunity applied in this case. During this show we will gain a better understanding of what qualified immunity means, and why it does not automatically apply to every officer involved shooting.
