On September 7, 2023, Trent Johnson was shot three times at the corner of Riverside and Berry. As Johnson was leaving the Texaco corner store  he was approached by two 15-year-olds. After speaking with the two teens briefly they attempted to rob him. At the time of the attempted robbery Johnson was carrying a backpack full of clippers, $113 cash, and a gun that was not loaded. The clippers were used to cut hair because Trent Johnson is a barber. One of the teens later turned himself in to police while the other suspect has not been taken into custody.

This past Tuesday we saw the city council vote on changes to take place in the West 7th Street area after a TCU student was shot and killed. The city will now have more off duty officers in the area, enhance lighting, and add ambassador patrols who will wear yellow vest. However, no one from the Mayor's office or the city council for the Riverside and Berry district contacted the family of Trent Johnson,. Tracy Johnson, the mother of Trent Johnson said the city needs to do more for the teens in that area.
