Casts are used to provide structure and support when something is broken. But once the broken body part is healed enough, the cast must come off or it can become a hindrance to the body restoring its full vitality and range of motion independently.
We create similar support structures for ourselves metaphorically in any number of areas -- communities and systems whose job it is to provide structure and support so that we can heal and become more whole again. But what happens when it's time for that cast to come off? How many of us stay in these rigid cast structures too long and forget how to stand firmly on our own two feet?
