In their new series looking at "hard sayings" of Jesus--teachings that provoke or challenge, frustrate or confuse us--pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve take a look at the teaching of Jesus against divorce, in order to understand what was likely going on in a first century Jewish context (in which it was largely men who held the power to throw their wives away with easy divorce), and what this teaching means for us today.  While it can be tempting to ignore Jesus' words because divorce is prevalent in our culture, it can also be tempting to turn Jesus' words into a weapon to beat people with rather than to redirect the ways we treat ALL of our relationships.  In a day and age when everything we buy from paper coffee cups to cheap electronics is made to be thrown away when it no longer "works" for us, how can we be resistant by treating all people, from spouses and family to friends, neighbors, strangers, and everyone else, as people beloved of God--in other words, how can we stop treating people like they are disposable?  Join us for a conversation about this challenging, and often heart-wrenching, question on this episode of "Crazy Faith Talk."
