Please join Denise Bolds, MSW author of Raising Princes to be Kings: A Single Black Mother's Guide to Raising Her Black Son and Victoria Page-Hayward, Founder of "Black Women Stand UP! A Movement to Change How We Are Depicted in the Media" - A national group on Facebook: If you are a Black woman who is TIRED of being routinely depicted as loud, ghetto, un/undereducated, single mothers of multiple babies with multiple fathers, angry, overbearing, unmarriageable, undesireable, lifetime welfare recipients, unwilling, unable, and unskilled to work, neck-rolling, gum-popping, "Ebonics-speaking", disease-ridden (oh, you didn't know? Now they say that it's a fact that HALF of us have Herpes) hoochie mamas, then this group is for you. In addition, we will also focus on how we are NOT seen in the media. Specifically, how so much focus is placed on missing women who are of other races, and precious little airtime, if any, is given to the many Black women who go missing every year. Our lives are just as valuable as any other, yet months, sometimes years of airtime is spent on telling the stories of women who are not Black. Those women certainly do deserve for their stories to be heard, however so do our sisters. An evening of discussion and empowerment!
