Dr. Winters' interests are sociology of education, educational policy, critical race theory, & feminism(s). Professor, author, & therapist. She is also the founder and facilitator of #BlackEdu at twitter.com (@ileducprof).
Dr. Venus E. Evans-Winters, Associate Professor of Education, teaches at Illinois State University in the department of Educational Administration and Foundations and is a Faculty Affiliate with Women and Gender Studies. Dr. Evans-Winters' research interests are urban children and adolescents, school resilience, alternative learning communities, and the schooling of African American female students across the Diaspora. She uses sociological and anthropological research methods to study educational issues and problems. Her methodologies are necessarily interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary in scope. She is the author of "Teaching Black girls: Resiliency in urban classrooms" (2005; 2011) as well as several articles and book chapters.
