In the past few weeks, there has been a whirlwind of rhetoric on social media when it comes to identifying birth work… New, unfounded terms are popping up: ‘Student Doula’ ‘Low Income Doula’… and it’s ALL related to race!

Denise Bolds - Holds a MSW degree, she’s Bold Doula; she’s a certified birth doula since 2014 with over 58 births. Denise is an advocate, educator, author, speaker and mentor. She’s is the producer/host of Awake in Birth! and the blogger of The Audacious Black Woman. She supports births in NYC, NJ, & CT for both private and community clients as well as provide multiple birth services. 

Nikia Michelle Lawson is a certified birth doula with DONA International, she is a doula trainer as well as an experienced doula with, over 20 years in the doula profession; she has her own 501(c)(3). Nikia is the first birth doula granted a hospital contract for doula services; Nikia has evolved her work to business coaching of birth work professionals. She has invested all of 2016 learning and world wide travel to enhance her business coaching skills. No one does it better! Nikia trains birth workers to grow their business with power and success!
