Born in Chicago and raised in North Carolina, Joshaun Muldrow, better known as Shaakes, is an aspiring songwriter and hip-hop artist.Shaakes always wanted to be a rapper as a child, penning rhymes and rehearsing verses in his teenage years, but it wasn’t until age 17 when his older brother was killed that Shaakes decided to take his aspirations seriously. Shaakes’ older brother was an aspiring singer himself, and the artist realized it was his purpose to become a star in his brother’s place.

In 2014, Shaakes moved to Hollywood, CA where he has been working to network and shop his music around the industry. As his personal journey has grown, so has his songwriting abilities; Shaakes is an artist who takes personal life experiences and crafts them into universal music with a mature touch. His work has put him in rooms with familiar entertainers like Ludacris, Kid Ink and others, but Shaakes is firm about making his way without any handouts. An artist with determination, Shaakes believes that his music speaks for itself and a slow grind is the only way to get real shine.

His musical peers nicknamed him Shaakes early on, but the artist himself says it’s because he is the Shakespeare of music. As for his own music, Shaakes is in the process of releasing his first major single and debut project. His upcoming project is said to be his most developed work to date, and his combination of passion and drive is the force allowing him to open up doors in the industry. His relocation to California has changed the way he writes his songs, and now Shaakes is ready to explore his style and build his brand to fulfill his dreams.
