One Musician’s Vision, Vibe, and Victory
ANTHONY GRANDVILLE
"I see lyrics in my mind... as if they were a movie." - A. Grandville

In ancient cultures, the ‘vision quest’ was a ritual widely used to visualize life goals - all while in a deep, trance-like state. In much the same way, Anthony Grandville has been on a creative quest for over two decades. Anthony uses a rare gift he’s been given called eidetic (or “photographic memory”) to envision and conquer his artistic goals.

Anthony explains, "I see lyrics in my mind as if they were a movie." Over the years, using this method, Grandville has tamed his muses to evolve into a successful singer, songwriter, and BMI affiliated publisher and actor. What follows is the story of one musician's vision, vibe, and victory.

Anthony grew up in rural Mississippi and recognized his gift in the earliest years of elementary school. One day, after watching a musical filmstrip in class, he realized he could perform it again immediately in front of his class - after watching it only once! Grandville elaborates, “From that moment, I saw music from a visual standpoint – long before there was an MTV.”

With an inherent interest in instruments, Anthony was taught piano and later was trained on the trumpet. In addition, he developed his vocal skills during Sunday services at church. It was there where he fell in love with performing and the microphone. Throughout his teens, Grandville was influenced by the classic sounds of Isaac Hayes, The O’Jays, Sam Cook and Barry White. “Those legendary artists taught me song substance, delivery, grooves, crooning, and charisma,” adds Grandville.
