Max Planck "The Father Of Quantum Theory" - "Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words: Ye must have faith. It is a quality which the scientist cannot dispense with." "Where Is Science Going?" (1932)
Furthermore, "Why is this important?"
It is an upgrade to our thinking so that we will be able to translate concretes and abstracts and know how to apply our translations to the real world and make more significant progress. Concrete operational children coordinate several important features of a task rather than centering on only the perceptually dominant one. It's called "Decentration". (Illustration: Liquid from a Tall glass poured into a more stout glass - Is it more or less?) Those not dominated in their perception and thinking by the physical/concrete features of what's in front of them can grasp and express the logic that leads to the correct perception of the reality behind (or carried by) the physical/concrete object/symbol that they are perceiving.
Similarly, students of higher knowledge in Al-islam must move to the point where they are able to make the “Goal of their ‘Ibada” more than “Good Character”: They must achieve “moral and ethical decentration” and apply their faithful intellect and ritual practice to scientific discoveries to improve their social reality and the world’s, as The Muslims of our Golden Age did.
