[Diagnosis] - According to ibn Uthaimeen (ra), one of the strong signs that a person is inflicted with the disease of hasad is that they always try to conceal the virtues and goodness of others. They don’t like it when others talk about the good that another person has done. Hasad is also one of the greatest causes of backbiting, in that the person likes to put down other people rather than highlight the person’s good points. Whoever is prone to pointing out others negative points, may be suffering from hasad or that other evil disease that Satan suffered from – pride. {…5. And from the mischief of the envious one as he practices envy.}

[Symptom] - The Dis-ease is that our problem person’s expression of Good Qualities, which we un-Consciously acknowledge, causes us to feel a deficit in our own good qualities or to feel threatened when we compare our self to them. This is a form of the Dis-ease of Envy and Jealousy.

[Prescription] - On the authority of Abu Huraira (R.A.A.) who said: The Prophet (PBUH), said: "[When you see someone who has more than you] Look at someone who has less than you. In this way you will not look down upon the grace of that God bestowed upon you." (Bukhari and Muslim) [not intending pride – see “an atom’s weight of pride” hadith - but gratitude to Allah]
