Those who claim that Abraham had to take dead birds or kill the birds and then put them on the hill/mountain haven’t grasped the need for higher order thinking to interpret it correctly.

It is an upgrade to our thinking to be able to translate concretes and abstracts and know how to apply our translations to the real world.  “Concrete Operational” children {those who have the growing capability for Logic} coordinate several important features of a task rather than centering on only the perceptually dominant one. That cognitive capability is called "Decentration".  (Illustration Tall glass of liquid poured into a more stout glass - Is it more or less?)  Those not dominated in their perception and thinking by the physical/concrete features of what's in front of them can grasp and express the logic that leads to the correct perception of the reality behind (or carried by) the physical/concrete object/symbol.
