How did I get here (to this particular question)? I was interested to know why the Fed requires as one of its triggers for raising interest rates an increase in inflation. I was puzzled by the fact that it appears that the economy is unable to raise the inflation rate. But I was/am also of the understanding that an increase of currency in circulation without a commiserate rise in GDP generates a rise in prices which effectively is inflation. However, even with the Zero interest rates and slow growth in GDP -- still no inflation.
