Bill Moyers: What happens when our myth's disappear or become dysfunctional?
Joseph Campbell: Just read the newspaper. Myth's must and do provide "life-models". The myths (life-models) have to be appropriate to the possibilities of the time in which we are living. Our time has changed and will continue to change so fast that what was proper 50 years ago is not proper today. So the virtues of the past are the vices of today and many of what were the vices of yesterday are the necessities of today. And the moral order has to catch up with the moral necessities of actual life in time here and now. And that is what it is not doing. (Joseph Campbell interviewed by Bill Moyers)
