ATH: Introduction to Hadith - Mufti Al-Maliki and Dr. Jonathan Brown

We need hadith, we need these reports from Bukhari and Muslim may G’d be pleased with them, their efforts, their great works we need that, we’re not putting down that or taking the importance off of that history, that recorded record, but believe me the purest perception of Muhammad is not in hadith its in Qur’an.  Know him first in the Revelation of  G’d, the Qur’an, the last Revelation, the last Book, know him first there and then seek to understand him or to see him in the reports of Bukhari, Muslim and others, for me its enough what G’d has said about Muhammad in Qur’an I don’t need any more convincing to follow Muhammad the Prophet, its enough what G’d says to me in Qur’an.

The hadith, the reports of his life that’s additional help for me but its not help that I have to have to go forward, I go forward with what G’d says of Muhammad in Qur’an and I can go forward comfortably  having no more than what G’d says of Muhammad in Qur’an.  But for the sake of educating myself, for the sake of collecting information so that I could present more scholarly the Qur’an on Muhammad, certainly I need to study the best reports on his life collected by Bukhari, Muslim and others, is that clear?"
