(Imam Mohammed (ra) begins tafsir on 2: 148) - "To each is a goal” this could be interpreted to mean in the plural meaning each community, but the first meaning and the most important we should get is that it is speaking to each person each individual person because the word  "huwa", "he" is singular “to each is a goal to which Allah turns him.” The "hu" is for G'd, but the "ha" is for the singular.  But now here it comes in the plural the instruction is given in the plural, "then strive together, all of you".  What is the condition for all of us being able to strive together?  We want to cooperate with each other, to make the effort together. What is the condition?  Now we know there are many things that we can give from the Qur'an from the life of the Prophet (pbuh) to strengthen us towards this particular work. The working together in cooperation but nothing is more effective more helpful, in what we're reading right now, because it goes to what is inherent in us; what is the actually calling us in our own life in our own souls in our own nature."
