The Arabic word Nisa or Nisa’un is “Women” not “Woman”. There is no singular form or translation for Nisaa as “a woman”. [2:223 – Women as a whole] The singular form in Quranic Arabic for “a woman” is “imara’at”.
Likewise, the Arabic word for An-Nas is “Men or Mankind” not “a Man”.
So, the term An-Nas, like the term An-Nisa, isn’t used for one man because there is no singular form for it, either.
The singular for “a man” is Rajulun.
Another Quranic term for “Men or Mankind”. Al-Insan (Definite Article + Hamza/Alif-Nun-siin) [30:30, 95:4]
Alif-Nun-Siin = to be or become sociable, companionable, conversable, inclined to company or conversation, friendly, amicable, or familiar. In other words, socialized and civilized.
In the Quranic Arabic, a true pairing of the term for “a man” and for “a woman” is reflected in the Arabic term “Mari” for “one man” and “Mara’at or Imra’at” for “one woman”. They are both from the same root- Miim-Ra-Hamza/Alif.
