Chicken Soup for the Soul - Me and My Dog with Amy Newmark

    in Moms and Family

Are you curious about that Magical Connection between humans and animals, especially dogs? Well, join Amy Newmark, Chicken Soup for the Soul publisher, and me on Wednesday, February 28th, from 10 AM -11 AM CT U.S. We will be discussing that fun Special Human–Animal Bond from their latest release, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Me and My Dog - 101 Tales of Canine Companionship.
These stories will have dog lovers laughing, tearing up, and nodding their heads in recognition. The experiences are touching, inspiring, and sometimes mindboggling stories as to how dogs enrich our lives, become part of our families, and make us better people.
“It’s remarkable how much dogs add to our lives,” says Amy Newmark. “Our writers report on how their dogs helped them improve their relationships, acted as natural therapists, and showed them how to overcome their own challenges. They learned how to be better humans through the examples of their dogs’ loyalty, faith, forgiveness, and resilience.”
In keeping with Chicken Soup for the Soul’s support for pet adoption and shelters, the 101 stories chosen for the book from thousands of submissions are inspirational and fun and feature rescued dogs, including black dogs and senior dogs, which are often left behind at shelters. Chicken Soup for the Soul’s mission is to make people think “shelter first” when they’re considering adding a new pet to their families.

    in Family

Children's Corner: Adventures of Jelly Bean with Amy Pollack
Ever since she was in fourth grade – back in 1960 – Amy Meislin Pollack was writing and telling stories about a character named Jelly Bean. She never stopped telling those stories, sharing them with her students over a teaching career that spanned 40+ years. She shared them with her three children when they were younger – and then with her seven grandchildren. Now her stories have been made available to everyone with the recent publishing of two coming-of-age books intended for middle-graders, The Adventures of Jelly Bean and The Further Adventures of Jelly Bean.
Amy Meislin Pollack was a teacher for over four decades, raised three children, and loves to play with her seven grandchildren. From her own childhood to the classroom and as a parent and grandparent, she is perfectly positioned to pen her coming-of-age book series.
Pollack earned a BA in English from Goucher College in Baltimore and received her Master’s in English from University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She was certified as a secondary education and reading specialist for grades K-12 and earned a special education teaching degree from NJU, allowing her to teach disabled students.

Close Up Radio to Highlight Life and Divorce Coach Nanette Murphy

    in Family

Royal Oak, MI -- Live Life Now with Purpose is the name of Nanette's ever-growing business and a central theme in the book that she wrote. It is the story of her personal self-care adventure, entitled Shattered Dreams and New Beginnings: A Journey of Heartbreak, Healing, and Growth. The book is featured on her own website and on Amazon.com and contains much of the advice about bouncing back from trauma and moving on with intention she shares with clients. Nanette’s writing has also appeared in Brainz Magazine, and she has been a featured podcaster on youtube. She also speaks at private events and before women’s groups, always covering the self-care for women and divorce subjects.
Nannette’s coaching relationships with women all begin with affirmations for the client: how strong they are, how much courage it took to even seek her out, and to ask for help in future steps. She lets them know that she has “walked in their shoes,” that a divorce coach can be more of a saving than an expense, and then together they define the goals for moving forward
Nanette notes that when women learn a divorce is pending, the first thing they usually do is hire an attorney, She believes they should start a coaching relationship at the same time, or even before. They should also make contact with a financial advisor early on. When you are sorting out 25 to 40 years of a life together, preparation is key.
“I recognize marriage is never easy and I sure don’t advocate for divorce. But if it does happen, knowledge and preparation are vital. There’s a process for getting out and you need to understand it.”

    Angels Among Us

    in Family

This episode centers on the Angels that dwell among us. Those special people that God has given us to protect, love and learn from. Many of you know them as "challenged". I prefer unique. We are all "challenged" in some form or another. None of us are perfect. Granted God had a perfect plan however, we as human managed to screw that one up big time.
I have the honor of having one of those Angels in my life. His name is Stan and he survived and thrived in a time when that was not possible or probable. While we has a society have come a long way in the acceptance of those who are "challenged" we still have a long way to go. You see, some of those Angels are not born "challenged" some become that way after an illness, stroke or Traumatic Brain Injury or some other neurological damage. Because we as a rule do not know how to communicate or refuse to have the patience to allow them to communicate, we pass them off as unimportant. Shame on us. They are a gift to be cherished, loved and protected.
Join me as I talk about how we as a society must change the way we treat our Angels. You will be surprised at the things you learn from the beautiful people if you only give them a chance. My brother taught me more than I can ever teach him. His story can be found in his book, Dreamcatcher Failure was Never an Option.
Yes, the lines will be opened for call ins to tell your story.

About Family

Like the TV show, modern families come in all shapes and sizes. Many children are a product of divorce, are in touch with both their biological and adopted parents, have two moms or two dads (or both), or are being raised by their grandparents. No matter how atypical the face of today's family, the values stay the same: love and support. Moms and dads will find plenty of support in BlogTalkRadio's parenting shows, especially those about time-management topics that fit both stay-at-home and working parents: organizing kids' activity schedules, decluttering, reducing the workweek, managing stress, making quick meals and more. We've also got shows about friendship – you know, your family of choice rather than family of origin. Just remember: everyone's family seems dysfunctional in its own way. And family may irritate you, but more often than not, you can always count on family to pick you up from the airport.
