Trying to rebuild Detroit is just not going to work. Detroit needs to do things differently than any other city. This means abolishing the failing school system. It means contracting out the police department. It means redifining the core functions of what a city does. If Kevyn Orr simply goes about trying to recapture the good old days, he will simply add another chapter to what Detroit has been all about for the past 50 years, failure.
