This week's Girls in Politics Initiative Podcast welcomes as our guest, Author Leila Sales. Our GIP Student Host and Leila Sales will discuss her latest book, "The Campaign." This middle-grade political comedy is about 12-year-old Maddie Polansky who runs her babysitter's campaign for mayor. 

Leila Sales is the author of seven critically acclaimed books for children and teens, including, most recently, THE CAMPAIGN (Abrams, 2020), a middle grade novel about civics and political engagement. Her books have been optioned for film and stage, received multiple starred reviews, and been translated into a dozen languages. Leila grew up in Boston, graduated from the University of Chicago, worked as a children’s book editor in New York City, and now lives in Austin.

The Girls in Politics Initiative Podcast is a weekly podcast, hosted by student interviewers, that introduces girls to women working as professionals in the political sector and women that are current or former elected officials. Student interviewers ask guests to share their experiences working in the political sector, running for public office, and serving in public office. Student interviewers will also ask guests to share information about their current role and their paths into politics.
