Our guest this week is D. Malone: From sexual assault and drug abuse to rescue mission After coming back from the brink, author becomes counselor to help other women HOUSTON – According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), one in six U.S. women is sexually assaulted in her lifetime. Many of these victims then turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of being violated and some will lose themselves entirely in abusive relationships or to their own addictions. D. Malone recognizes them. She knows the look of women who are “gone” because she used to be one herself. In her new release, GREEN: Surviving the Murder of Self, sexual abuse survivor-turned-women's counselor, Malone reveals the painful events leading up to her near suicide attempt, including sexual assault, drug addiction, physical and emotional abuse and even losing her children. Then, she offers a frank account of her recovery, and the hard steps she took towards healing.
