This is not Claire Daly's 1st visit to the show - it's a blast having her!  She is fun and fearless - a beautiful and thoughtful guest.  And one downright AMAZING artist.  There is so much to Claire - a trailblazing musician, composer, performer, educator, mentor and master clinician.

Let's start at the beginning.  DAD was instrumental in his daughter's blossoming interest in Jazz.  From their home in Yonkers, New York, they made their way to the city to hear the greats.  Duke, Ella, Basie, Benny, Lionel.  And Claire's further inspiration came from absorbing what her PEERS enjoyed.  So, the variable taste in music gained momentum.  To this day, she reveres classics as much as avant garde.  But thank God that Jazz claims her :)

After graduation from Berklee (alto sax), she was on the road with Jazz AND Rocks acts.  Moving back to New York was pivotal.  Lifelong connections were formed, she developed a partnership with Koch Jazz, and became the original Bari player in the Diva Big Band.  It needs to be said here that - when Claire first heard the baritone saxophone - she knew that she had found her "voice."  The one she got her hands on?  Formerly owned by multi-instrumentalist, Howard Johnson.  It was sold to Claire by a mutual friend.

1999: "Swing Low" - and an impact was made.  Claire was nominated by the Jazz Journalist Association as "Best New Artist."  2011 gave us the story of Claire's cousin, Mary Joyce - have you heard this?  You WILL!  2012 and here comes "Baritone Monk" - which has another awesome story behind it.  NOW we are focusing on "2648 West Grand Boulevard."  A wickedly creative interpretation of Motown hits.  You heard me!  You IN?  Join us on 3/7 - see you in the Chat Room!
