The marvelous Mark Rini made the introduction - and now I am a Proulx Apostle!  What a charming, refreshing, Old School-Meets-New FIND for ALL of us in Jazz!  "Say It" - John's fourth production - is full of both the familiar and those beloved breathed anew.  Accompanied by extraordinary musicianship, three-string quartet arrangements, and a duet with Melissa Manchester!

Let's go back, though, and give you some fuel for more excitement.  Our guest was THREE when he was playing a Suzuki violin. His interest in piano grew - as did his fever for Jazz - propelled by his John's Grandfather, Clyde Proulx, a guitarist.  Those two shared a joy in improvisation - and you can hear that expressed in John's work.  Appreciation FOR that work?  Anita O'Day had it - so did Natalie Cole and Marian McPartland.  Melissa M. has it, too, as evidenced by her eagerness to sing on this new CD.  And let's mention that GRAMMY!  John Proulx had a part to play in the winning of that coveted award back in 2007.  He co-wrote a song from Nancy Wilson's "Turned to Blue."  The song, "These Golden Years" earned the honor of being chosen FOR Nancy's project, winning the category of "Best Jazz Vocal Album" that year.

This is a new phase for John.  He recorded his past three productions on the MaxJazz label.  When the owner of that label passed away, John decided it was time for a new beginning.  How this beginning is being lauded!  You know the kind of stellar artistry that has appreciated him.  Witness who has worked with him!  And "Cadence Magazine" covers "Say It" glowingly in its July issue.  So does Fernando Rodriguez De Mondesert on Facebook.  Fernando does MUCH for Jazz in the Domincan Republic and globally.  He LOVES John - and so will YOU!
