This is one fascinating Lady, Friends!  Debora Galan (De BORAH Gah LAHN) was born in Brussels, raised in Madrid, and spent important years in Washington, D.C.  Her Mother and Step-Father were socially and politically involved there - and that's where Debora had her professional "start."

It's always significant to cite early influences in the lives of our guests on "Hybrid Jazz."  Two of those for Debora were her Grandfather and Mom.  They sang Flamenco.  One doesn't usually hear this - because we associate the revered music with DANCE.  The feel of this ancient beauty was absorbed by Debora to her core.  She also felt the depth of Barbra Streisand, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston and Sade.  Later she came to fully appreciate Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.  In D.C., she found her footing.  Through some divine kismet, she became involved with Latin Jazz and Salsa in the area clubs.  Debora became known in the region and there were many opportunities to open for major artists.

In 1987, she moved to San Diego - and that move seems to agree with her.  The climate in both temperature and atmosphere :)  It's there that she formed her group, Silk, and came to recognize her gifts of composition and leadership.  Her first album AS leader, "All About Love", reflects confidence and astounding ability to transcend multiple genres.  Two of these tracks are sung in Spanish.  ALL speak to the heart and soul of listeners.  When she made the move to California, our guest's repertoire grew to include Contemporary Gospel - you can hear profound joy and authenticity in her work as a result.  EYE do - and I was taught - via Radio - that if one does, 100 more do as well.

Join us at one p.m. Eastern on 9/18/18 for a most anticipated visit - Debora joins us at TWO!
