To write about someone you know - who has SOARED to new heights in the music business - is exciting BEYOND words! Such is the case regarding Dr. Chelsey Green.

In the days of WSMJ and beyond in Baltimore, those of us in Jazz circles kept an eye on this AMAZINGLY talented and unique Woman. Seeing her play and hearing her speak: both were joys. The education that she took so seriously truly paid off in ways that will continue to sustain her. A Master's degree at Johns Hopkins' Peabody Conservatory - before that, Summa Cum Laude at the U. of Texas in Austin. After Peabody, a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland, College Park.

This is crucial in telling you who Chelsey is - but here's the other spark that gives her music LIFE. Her background. While studying Classical violin in her tiny girl days, her household was full of Jazz, Funk, R & B - and Gospel. This was her blueprint. And she has been on a mission - since many of us have known her - to infuse her violin & viola expertise with the MULTIPLE genres that she had absorbed, growing up in Houston.

And she has never STOPPED absorbing. Chelsey & her Green Project just dropped "Re-Envisioned" - which we hear will pave the way for a full-length album (the first since "Green Room" in 2014!)  It's violin as you haven't heard. It's NOT your MAMA'S violin!

You'd expect greatness from a teenage Queen who thrilled Carnegie Hall at 16. You'd expect charting on "Billboard" and blowing minds on international stages. What you might not expect from the Goddess Doctor of Musical Arts: her astounding generosity. Chelsey is committed to empowering students with music. Workshops, after school functions. It's what she continues to do as Professor at Berklee. This is why her music is the truth: the love INSIDE it.

FEEL that love on 7/30!
