DeLaina Smith is a disease intervention specialist with the Allegheny County Health Department. DeLaina has over 15 years of social work experience along with banking and retail management. In 1998, DeLaina graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services. At 21 years of age, DeLaina became a follower of Christ while riding the Greyhound bus home for Thanksgiving break. As a Christ follower, DeLaina has attempted to live her life through the lens of Scripture, be it parenting, as a spouse, a friend and employee. Unbeknownst to many, DeLaina is an avid reader, baker and homemade soap maker, with a love for coffee. In 2015, soap making became an important part of her life dur to som famiy skin issues. After countless appointments with dermatologists and failes treatments, DeLaina started to research and make better options for her entire family. Now that her children are young adults, the skin care issues that once plagued them are no longer issues. Skin is the largest organ on a human's body, skin is a living organism, and we must protect it. As a new empty nester, DeLaina is embarking on an entrepreneurial calling called Soapy Soulutions, focusing on better skin care through handmade soaps and body care items. DeLaina will talk about her life journey to this point, and a few things more, on today's show.
