Abby Schachner (Your Friend Abby) is a writer/performer who started illustrating four years ago to make her children’s writing REAL. When not illustrating, she performs her poems (and comedic ditties) around Los Angeles and beyond (especially when not in quarantine). After college, Abby moved to Chicago to study improvisation. There, she toured the country with The Second City and improvised with amazing people. She’s also a solo performer who enjoys tackling tough themes in creative ways. Be it eating disorders, sexuality, abortion, or intimacy, her shows have won Best Of’s at festivals around the US. Her show, Schachner Vs. Schachner, (a feel-bad comedy about family, identity, and attempted murder) was the #1 reviewed show at the Hollywood Fringe and received Best Comedy at the SFFringe. Always on the hunt to grow creatively and to challenge herself, the past year and a half she dove face first into stand up. When not drawing, painting, or writing jokes, she is occasionally overcome by crafting binges, creating dolls made from upcycled clothing, cans, and/or tampons. In the meantime, she has created four children’s books – Monsters Have Feelings, When Monsters Are Happy, The Spot and The Breathing Book.
