James Elkin started his education in religious studies. He later studied music and then Linguistics, in which he received his BA in California. He came to New York to do his graduate work in Semitic Linguistics at Columbia University in 1978. He then entered a career in Information Technology where he ultimately was promoted to Vice-President, and was given charge over a large team of experts.

Jim was first exposed to Chinese medicine in 1995, when he began to work with an acupressurist in Hoboken, New Jersey. He studied acupressure and then acupuncture at Tri-State College of Acupuncture in Manhattan. He received his New York State license and certification in 2000, when he began to practice. He quit his IT job in 2004 and started pursuing his career as a healer.

At this time, Jim is working in Westchester County, he on the board of directors for three different organizations, and he is a full-time father of his lovely daughter of 9 years old.
