Some background information on the owner and chef! Justa is from Liberia, officially the Republic of Liberia which was founded in 1822 as a settlement for the American colonization Society, an organization who believed freed black people(slaves) would have a better life in Africa than in the United States where their rights were limited and pretty much non-existant. Along with Afro-Caribbean, they relocated to the African settlement and brought with them their culture and traditions which included the food they ate, mostly food from the Southern parts of the United States. Liberian food is heavily influenced by Southern American food and is a flavorful marriage the two.
