So, how can you tell the difference between to ex-light and the true light?

When Satan rebelled, God cast him as profane from the height of heaven. Because of his rebellion, Satan was destroyed from the midst of the "Stones of Fire" (which many people believe are the planets) where he ruled and reigned over literal material kingdoms. Evidence of these civilizations can be seen on Mars.

Ezekiel 28:13 - 15 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
