TODAYS CONVERSATION - "WHEN LOVE CALLS".  I recently concluded that the lyrics to Bobby Caldwell's, "What You Won't Do for Love", written in 1978, may not have been about a person. In fact, could it have just been about the thing that made his heart go pitter patter? The song suggests that there can be nothing that you wouldn't do for love. Could this be? I've been told by people very close to me that I am a lyric person, and this is true. Music makes my heart move, but the lyrics determine whether I keep listening. When I listen to this long-time favorite by Bobby Caldwell, I realize what I thought it meant when I was 17 is not what it means today years later. They say some people will go to great lengths to discover their true love, but I am reminded that love is not measurable. I read a comment yesterday that said we never really discover what we love. Life is strange like that. You think you know what you want. You crave it and imagine all the million ways in which acquiring it will make your life better. But you get there, and you realize that getting what you thought you wanted doesn't make you happy, and that maybe we want things not for the things themselves but for the stability, structure, and sense of purpose desire provides.
