After a troubled childhood in the care system in the 70’s Malik emerged semi-literate; that all changed. In 1984 after a chance meeting with ‘Gil Scott-Heron, who mentored him from the streets to the University where he earned a Bachelors in Geography and Sociology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Social Research and a master’s degree in New Media Production. Mailk is also the Director of publishing house ForeWord Press Ltd. and a production company Yesternight Productions Ltd. Malik was the associate producer for the film “Hustlers Convention” a documentary film on the forgotten roots of rap. The documentary featured (Ft. Chuck D, Ice T, Immortal Technique, Melle Mel, MC Lyte, George Clinton, Nelson George, KRS One and others). It was globally released in 2015, charting the legendary first album of the same title that spawned Hip Hop“ by Lightenin’ Rod” aka Jalal of The Last Poets that was the foundation of Rap.
