Tonight's special guest is Nic Grover from Hutto, Texas, who was abused physically, verbally and emotionally by her parents, primarily by her mother. Nic says, "The abuse started when I was 4, until the day I left for college (with my mom). And when it came to my dad, it continued until my early 20s." Diagnosed with PTSD, she recently started therapy. "I don't look at myself as a victim or survivor," Nic explains. "I guess, I don't identify as either. For me, it came down to restoring my faith in Christ, and really growing in my relationship with Him." She goes on, "Because of my abuse I isolated myself a lot and didn't have a lot of friends until I left for undergrad. I never felt valued or loved. For me it came down to writing and allowing myself some form of expression that no one could take away." Like many abused children, Nic survived because she left the area, out of her predators' reach. "I left for college, and for me it meant going 12 hours away from home. I recently started therapy. I was diagnosed with PTSD, and have had a few pretty bad breaks, causing me to reevaluate certain aspects of my life. It wasn't until 2020, when a lot of the world shut down and I finally realized that I couldn't do that anymore. It's a work in progress. It's hard, sometimes seems impossible, but I'm working on myself."
