Tonight’s show is called, “Is There Anybody Out There? Suicide Support System Failure.”
Tonight, we are going into more depth about the systemic failures of suicide support systems in our country, as well as helping our listeners understand the mindset and expectations of those suffering with these pathologies, so that we can all help more effectively, and have realistic expectations about what is in our power to do.
Tonight, we will discuss: 1. SUICIDE ON THE RISE: Statistics and articles detailing the uptick in suicides and self-harm. Contributing factors. 2. RESOURCES: What are some of the most commonly referred resources for those in distress? What can one expect when contacting them? What are their limitations and what is their authority? 3. SYSTEMIC FAILURES: Recounting anecdotes and accounts of ways in which these resources have failed to do the job we assume they are doing. 4. HOW TO HELP: Why these failures are happening. What is in our power to do about it? How can family, friends, laypersons, and professionals, ALL be better prepared to respond in an effective way to those who are depressed, despondent, or suicidal?
We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia, in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.
