Given that our last topic, amongst other issues, talked in part about addiction from a young age, and also coming out of several conversations Dr. Mathis has recently had with some of his clients, who are not only addicts, but also persons diagnosed with various pathologies said to have an inherited component to them, we wanted to give an expanded take on an old, classic trope: Nature vs. Nurture.

As we did on our last show, we are breaking somewhat with our usual format, and discussing matters in a more extemporaneous fashion.

Tonight, we will discuss:

  • Basic aspects of the Nature vs. Nurture debate, relevant to mental health issues.
  • Ways to determine how much self-control and agency an individual (oneself, or someone one with whom one is interacting) has.
  • How to find and utilize help in choosing appropriate behavior, in spite of circumstances

We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.

Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm ET. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!
