“Failure to Launch” was a 2006 Matthew McConaughey movie that may have been lukewarm at the box office, but it gave our society a means to articulate a particular problematic phenomenon.
Many young adults are either still living at home after school for extended periods of time, and/or struggling with basic life skills even if they have at least made the jump to independent living.
Tonight, we want to talk about a specific phenomenon often colloquially referred to as “Failure to Launch Syndrome,” although this is not an actual pathology per se, and can have a few different kinds of causes.
We also want to touch base on Basic Adult Life Skills, and ability to function independently in society.
To be clear, also, we will briefly address those who may behave this way due to a bona fide pathology, just to get that possibility out of the way, but primarily we are referring to social choices made by adults capable of navigating them.
