It would seem like a clearly defined issue, but often the Code of Ethics for School Board Members needs to be interpreted to decide whether a board member should vote on an issue, or even participate in discussion. In addition, board members need to be wary of how they conduct themselves as individuals when they are not sitting at the board table. Does the Code of Ethics for School Board Members restrict their free speech? How does a board member communicate with staff if the board member is also a parent?
