We will be discussing the recent FCC filing of a Petition to Deny the renewal of WQHT Hot 97's license to broadcast by New York hip hop journalist and advocate Manny Faces.

Manny says, "Often, such opposition revolves around content (i.e., is modern rap music indecent, suitable for children, perpetuating negative stereotypes, etc), however my petition pursues a different line of reasoning, stating that the station, because of its use of the term "hip hop," is attempting to redefine "hip hop" as a genre, rather than the more accepted definition, that of a culture. While Hot 97 plays much hip hop -- the music -- it does not serve the interest of hip hop -- the culture, or hip hop -- the community, particularly within their broadcast radius."

We will be discussing this stunning development, and taking calls on the topic.
