In 2009, Jauvon Gilliam was unamimously named to the post of Principal Timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra, the resident orchestra of The John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. A native of Gary, Indiana, Gilliam is an alumnus of Butler University. He will speak to The African American Voice in Classical Music about his career as an instrumentalist in one of the nation's premiere orchestras
